What is CBD

CBD or Cannabidiol is a natural compound found to a greater or lesser extent in hemp flowers, a plant whose history as a natural medicine dates back thousands of years.

Today, scientists and doctors around the world are testing and confirming the therapeutic properties of CBD. A safe substance, with no psychoactive effects and no addictive effects.

CBD is one of more than one hundred “phytocannabinoids” found exclusively in the hemp plant and thanks to them, the plant has a strong therapeutic profile.

CBD is closely related to another important phytocannabinoid that is also medicinally active: THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, the compound that causes the effect for which hemp is most famous, the psychoactive one.

These are the two components of hemp that scientists have studied the most to date.

Both CBD and THC have important therapeutic properties. The CBD does not produce psychoactive effect (to understand, it does not get high) unlike THC. This is because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body.

CBD decreases or neutralizes the psychoactive effects of THC, depending on how much of each compound is consumed.

All of our products in the store have less than 0.2% THC which is such an insignificant amount that with the high CBD contents they possess, they do not produce any psychoactive effects.

It is also the amount legally allowed throughout Europe, although there are countries where a higher percentage is allowed as in Italy with 0.5% and Switzerland with 1%. The European Union has just announced that they have raised the percentage to 0.3% in Europe.

Many people are looking for the health benefits of hemp without psychoactive effects. The fact that CBD is so therapeutically interesting, without psychoactive effects and easy to acquire, like CBD oil or our flowers and buds, makes it an attractive treatment option for those who are cautious about trying hemp for the first time.

CBD: THE MULTIPURPOSE MOLECULE

There are many people looking for alternatives to pharmaceuticals with severe side effects: medicine is more in sync with natural processes. By understanding how we function biologically on a deep level, we found that CBD can help and alleviate chronic pain, anxiety, inflammation, depression and many, many other pathologies.

Extensive scientific research, much of it sponsored by the U.S. government, AND the multitude of patient and physician experiences highlight CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Autoimmune diseases such as inflammations, rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Huntington’s Chorea, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries….
  • Metabolic Syndrome such as Diabetes, Obesity.
  • Neuropsychiatric Diseases Autism, ADHD, PTSD, Alcoholism
  • Intestinal disorders, especially Colitis or Crohn’s disease.
  • Cardiovascular Dysfunction: Arteriosclerosis, Arrhythmias
  • Skin diseases, very indicated in Acne, Atopic Dermatitis or Psoriasis.

Although we have listed some of the above, these are not the only diseases in which CBD has proven to be very effective, there are many more and every day there are new scientific studies on the subject.

CBD has proven neuroprotective effects and its anti-cancer properties are being investigated in several academic research centers in the United States and several other countries.

A 2010 study on brain cancer by California scientists found that CBD “enhances the inhibitory effects of THC on the proliferation and survival of human glioblastoma cells.”

This means that CBD makes THC even more potent as an anti-cancer substance. Also in 2010, German researchers reported that CBD stimulates neurogenesis, the growth of new brain cells, in adult mammals.
