Hemp Oil Benefits and Uses

Hemp belongs to the same family as cannabis. Possessing many virtues, this plant with long thin leaves is more and more used in beauty routines, in the form of vegetable oil. Face, body, or hair… Laure Bouguen, founder of the hemp care brand Ho Karan, teaches us how to use it on a daily basis.

It is the new star of natural cosmetics. In recent years, hemp has become increasingly popular with skincare brands for its many benefits to the skin and hair. It can be found in stores in the form of vegetable oil. An oil that “comes from the pressed seeds of the plant,” says Laure Bouguen, founder of Ho Karan cosmetics.

What are its benefits?

Slip a bottle of hemp oil in your toiletry bag, and your skin will thank you. One of the most interesting benefits is the hydration it provides, Laure Bouguen informs us. “It is rich in essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega 3 and 6,” says the specialist. These components help to fight against the effects of free radicals that accelerate skin aging. This makes hemp oil an anti-aging supplement to apply to the face. Also, “it helps rebuild the skin’s hydrolipidic film. This oily film protects the skin from the outside world and from dehydration, but can be attacked and weakened by other products”.

Applied to the hair, hemp oil, thanks to the natural proteins it contains, contributes to the production of keratin and prevents the hair from being brittle, explains the expert. For the beard, “it is traditionally used by barbers after shaving to soothe the area”.

How to use hemp oil on the face?

“Hemp oil should be the last step in the application of care, recommends Laure Bouguen. The skin is mostly composed of water and some fats. Oils penetrate less deeply into the skin than serums or moisturizing creams because there is only a fatty phase, while serums or creams are composed mostly of an aqueous phase (water) and a little fat”. And this is even if the oils rich in omega 3 and 6 as the hemp are drier than the oils rich in omega 9 which leaves a greasy feeling, she underlines.

For an effective moisturizing routine, the specialist suggests:

  • Cleanse your skin;
  • Apply a lotion, floral water if you want to bring water ;
  • Put on your eye contour;
  • Add your serum and moisturizer ;
  • Then, massage your face with hemp vegetable oil, preferably in the evening so as not to be bothered by the slight greasy film it leaves on the skin during the penetration time, but especially to give yourself “a pleasant moment” after a long day.

“Of course, any step can be skipped so as not to shine, but always respect the order,” adds the pro.

Hemp oil for hair

Hemp oil also has virtues for the hair as the founder of Ho Karan explains. “For very dry, frizzy or curly hair, we apply hemp oil as a mask before a shampoo all over the hair, then on the ends only after cleansing.” Go to Hemponix for more info on hemp oil.

“For normal to oily hair, it is applied only to the ends before or after shampooing.”
